Wieland Copper to invest $27 million, create 50 jobs in Stokes County

A copper manufacturer in Pine Hall will invest $27 million to expand its production facility and create 50 jobs in Stokes County.

Wieland Copper produces copper tubes in straight lengths and in coils, which are then processed into smooth and inner-grooved tubes for the HVAC, defense and aerospace industries. With the addition of new manufacturing lines, Wieland will begin production of tech tubes high-performance tubes designed to optimize heat transfer in air conditioning and refrigeration technology, and cold plates – energy-efficient cooling devices designed to enhance the performance and lifespan of electronics.

Wieland, based in Ulm, Germany, acquired the Pine Hall production facility in 2010. About 220 people work in Pine Hall now in a 560,000-square-foot facility, about 23 miles northeast of Winston-Salem.

Wieland Copper will expand its production facility in Stokes County.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates Wieland’s proud impact in Pine Hall as we grow and strengthen our influence on the community and the industry with high-quality products made in America,” said Ivan Di Stefano, president of  Wieland Thermal Solutions, in a release.

Wieland, founded in 1820, employs about 7,900 workers at more than 80 locations worldwide. Wieland supplies semi-finished copper and copper alloy products through a global network of production sites. 

While wages vary by position, annual wages for new positions will average $56,900, exceeding the Stokes County average of $36,481, according to the state. These new jobs could potentially create an annual payroll impact of more than $2.8 million for the region.

A performance-based grant of $100,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will aid Wieland’s expansion.
