UPS laying off 99 workers in west Charlotte

Delivery giant UPS is trimming nearly 100 employees in west Charlotte as part of a national effort to reduce costs and boost efficiency.

The 99 workers at the West Pointe Drive location are involved in processing packages, and include 76 part-time hourly employees, 21 part-time management employees and two full-time managers. The layoffs will take place May 2. Workers were notified Monday, according to the Sandy Springs, Georgia-based company.

“As mentioned during our earnings call in January, UPS is making changes to optimize our network and improve efficiency, which will include closing some facilities,” says Karen Tomaszewski Hill, a UPS spokesperson.
“Our employees are extremely important to us, and we understand the impact this may have on them and their families. We are working to place as many employees as possible in other positions,” Hill adds.
UPS laid off 75 workers at the same facility in May.
UPS will keep some operations in the building. Some of the employees are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The local union representative also did not return a phone message left Wednesday morning.

UPS employs more than 500,000 workers worldwide, with about 70% represented by unions, according to the company. It reported $91.1 billion in revenue in 2024. UPS declined to disclose its employee count in North Carolina or Charlotte.
