UNC Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School intends to launch a new graduate-degree program in August that will lead to a Master of Science in Management.
It’s a big change for the school, which has traditionally focused its efforts on producing master’s of business administration graduates. Officials say the 10-month program is aimed at recent college graduates with as much as three years of work experience. Kenan-Flagler encourages at least five years of experience for its full-tiome MBA on-campus program.
“It strengthens our graduate degree offerings for recent college graduates who want to pursue business careers and will prepare them to compete more effectively in the job market,” Courtney Knoll, associate dean of the new program, said in a news release.
Similar master’s degree programs at Duke, Virginia and Wake Forest have attracted recent UNC graduates, “and we would love to keep them at Chapel Hill,” spokeswoman Allison Adams says.
The curriculum covers key business disciplines including accounting, finance, marketing, analytics, economics, strategy, leadership, operations and business communication. Students can concentrate in either finance or marketing
Plans call for students to work on consulting projects with corporate and nonprofit leaders.
Tuition for the full-time Chapel Hill program is $46,923 for in-state students and $53,250 for out-of-state residents. Approval from the UNC System’s Board of Governors is pending.
Kenan-Flagler has about 3,100 students in a variety of undergraduate, master’s and docgtoral programs. It also has about 51,000 alumni in 97 nations.
In 2024, US News & World Report ranked Kenan-Flagler as the sixth-best U.S. undergraduate business school and 20th best for MBA programs.
