Techtronic Industries will move its floor care and cleaning appliance operation from Charlotte to Anderson, South Carolina, which will impact 172 workers. TTI Floorcare’s portfolio includes brands such as Hoover, Oreck and Dirt Devil.
Some of the Charlotte staff will be offered the chance to continue working at TTI Floorcare operations in Anderson, about 125 miles south of Charlotte near the Georgia border. Other positions will be eliminated due to the transfer of operations, according to a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification filed with the state Department of Commerce on Wednesday.
TTI operates in an office park in northeast Charlotte that was once home to a large IBM installation.
Employees who either decline to move or whose positions are eliminated are expected to continue to have jobs in Charlotte until Jan. 9. Layoffs will continue until June 1, 2026, when TTI Floorcare expects to complete its transfer of operations.
Company officials did not immediately return messages seeking comment. The company did not list the job titles of those losing jobs or give specific numbers of those who would be offered jobs in Anderson. Employees are not part of a union and bumping rights do not exist. The company says it started providing employees with private outplacement services on Wednesday for a period of three months.
Since 2019, TTI Floorcare has invested more than $500 million in South Carolina, where its subsidiaries employ more than 1,500 workers at the company innovation center in Anderson. That facility includes more than 500,000 square feet of office, engineering and testing space, and 3 million square feet of distribution and warehouse operations.
“This relocation marks a significant milestone for TTI. By expanding our presence in Anderson, we’re beginning a new journey to accelerate innovation, strengthen our synergies to drive profitability, and deliver new consumer solutions,” said Steven Richman, CEO of TTI in a release.
In 2020, TTI announced a $100 million expansion in Anderson, creating 525 jobs. This move allows TTI to integrate its engineering and manufacturing teams.
TTI was founded and is headquartered in Hong Kong. The company established TTI Floor Care North America by combining Hoover with its existing Dirt Devil and Royal Manufacturing operations in Charlotte.
