Truist North Carolina West Region President Heath Campbell, the most senior ranking regional member of the Commercial Community Bank, is out at the bank after more than 20 years.
The Charlotte-based company declined to comment, saying it doesn’t talk about personnel matters. Sources within the bank confirmed his departure, and an email to his Truist account said he was no longer with the bank.
Last month, Truist added Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and the broader Triad area to Campbell’s region of Charlotte, Asheville and the N.C. foothills. The change followed the retirement of Cantey Alexander, who had been Triad Regional president for many years.
Campbell, 47, led a team consisting of banking, insurance and investments experts. He previously served in leadership roles for Truist across several markets, including Washington, D.C., Kentucky and Georgia.
Truist’s Triangle and Eastern N.C. operations are led by Regional President Chris Bell.
Campbell has a bachelor’s degree from UNC Wilmington and an MBA from the University of Maryland. He had offices in Charlotte and Winston-Salem.
The company plans to cut $750 million of expenses over the next few quarters, CEO Bill Rogers said at a banking conference last month. Part of the savings will come from an undetermined number of job cuts, he said.
Truist is the sixth-largest U.S. bank with more than $550 billion in assets. It formed through the 2019 merger of Winston-Salem-based BB&T and Atlanta-based SunTrust banks.
