Truist Financial named former Citi executive David Smith to lead its mortgage business, effective July 31. Todd Chamberlain, the current leader of Truist Mortgage, is retiring.
Smith will report to Truist Chief Retail and Small Business Banking Officer Dontá Wilson. “David’s experience and accomplishments as a leader in the mortgage industry position Truist to reimagine the future of Truist Mortgage for our clients,” Wilson said in a press release.
In 2021-22, Smith was president of Keller Home Financial Services, which is part of the Keller Williams real estate firm. He had spent the previous 13 years at Citi, including serving as CEO of CitiMortgage from 2019-21.
Chamberlain joined Truist predecessor SunTrust in 2018 after previously working for Regions and PNC, two large regional banks. He is based in Greensboro.
Charlotte-based Truist had assets of $574 billion as of March 31, ranking among the 10 largest U.S. commercial banks.
