If Taylor Walden was chatting with someone who was considering starting a business in Greenville, N.C., she would “tell them to do it.” After all, it’s the birthplace of her custom boutique gift shop, Simple & Sentimental. Walden launched the business in her freshman dorm room at East Carolina University in the fall of 2016. After winning the 2018 Greenville Area Business Pitch Competition for young entrepreneurs, Walden has grown Simple & Sentimental, which sells everything from drinkware to clothing, into a 2,600-square-foot production facility with more than 19,000 sales on Etsy.
