McAdams, a design and engineering firm headquartered in Raleigh, has acquired AVID Group, a civic engineering firm best known for its work with commercial and retail projects in Florida.
AVID Group, which began in 1991, has 20 employees and offices in the Tampa and Orlando areas. For the first 12 to 18 months AVID will operate as AVID / McAdams before fully adopting the McAdams name.

AVID principal and Chief Financial Officer Tracy Scott will serve as an administrative director for McAdams. Charlie Potter, a senior project manager for AVID, will lead the engineering team as the group manager in the Tampa and Orlando metros.
McAdams was founded in 1979 by its Chairman John McAdams when he was 30 years old. The company has 473 employees with branch offices in Charlotte, Durham and Winston-Salem, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
McAdams’ portfolio includes the 52-acre UNC Wilmington Outdoor Recreational Master Plan, renovations to the 243-acre City Lake Park in High Point and the 10-block Salisbury Main Street Streetscape Plan.
