Description
October is the annual Trailblazer issue for Business North Carolina and the magazine once again features people under 40 making a difference in their rural communities. Several of those featured included people who work in the service industry, which follows a trend in business. Other feature stories included one from Ted Reed on the Charlotte airport. The story looked at how its growth has propelled the Queen City.
The third feature story was a colorful look at how Richard Bryant and Bobby Edgerton started Capital Investment Group and have kept it successful for 40 years. The magazine also looked at eight behind-the-scenes political influencers shaping politics in the state. This story was blown up with the late developments to the Mark Robinson campaign.
The Power List interview was on Richard Samet who talked about how he has carried on the family tradition and grown Samet to the biggest contractor in the state. Dan Barkin wrote a column on how Craven County has found success by working together. That fit in well with the sponsored content section on eastern North Carolina. Chris Burritt looked at the success of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina on its 10th anniversary. Other trend stories involved a Baby Bar (coffee and moms) in Greensboro, the strong high-end home market, separate stories in changes in the real estate and pharmaceutical industries. We also wrote about the N.C. Treasurer race that features a candidate with no personal investment experience. Other features were on Laura Vinroot Poole and her boutique clothing store and the $500,000 frat party at UNC Chapel Hill. The roundtable was on diversity.
