December’s issue marked the 30th year that Business North Carolina has recognized small businesses around the state. This year’s diverse group included a Buncombe County patch-maker for the military, a Wake County designer of smartphone accessories and a Wilmington bakery. Our main feature story was a look at the less smoke future of RJ Reynolds on its 150th year. We also looked at the launch of Civic Federal Credit Union marred by its difficult exit from SECU. December also included our Top Doc list.
The Power List interview was with UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham. Trend stories included Raleigh’s payment processing PayBright, a profile of the owner of Sanford’s Hallmark store, PGA adding a stop in Asheville, and the PE appetite for Charlotte public companies. Point Take was on a veteran whose nonprofit helps other veterans who struggle. Brick & Mortar examined the history of Wilmington’s Thalian Hall.
