N.C. community colleges name Price as CFO

The North Carolina Community College System hired Phillip Price as its chief finance officer, managing the system’s fiscal strategy. He starts today.

Price has been the CFO at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford since 2013. Earlier, he was an administrator at Beaufort Community College in Washington.

He joins Jeff Cox, who was named president of the system on June 1. Price succeeds Brandy Andrews, who moved to the UNC System office in Raleigh earlier this year.

The finance officer supports the state’s 58 community colleges with guidance on budgets and policy. Nearly 600,000 students receive education at the colleges annually.

“When beginning the search, various stakeholders were asked who they thought was the very best candidate to fill this important role, and Dr. Phillip Price’s name kept coming up,” Cox said in a press release.

The state community college system receives more than $1.3 billion in annual state funding. North Carolina provides about 53% as much money per student for first-year and sophomore students at the two-year colleges as goes to the UNC System for comparable academic classes, according to the community college system’s legislative funding request.
