mfgCON conference rescheduled

North Carolina’s largest manufacturing convention, the ever-popular mfgCON, heads to the Durham later this fall featuring two days of collaboration, learning, and networking for members of our state’s most important industry.

This year’s event will be held at the Durham Convention Center on November 13 and 14. North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP), in conjunction with Business North Carolina magazine will once again host this annual affair.

NCMEP is a public-private operating alliance of state supported partners that promotes manufacturing in across the state. NCMEP is led by the North Carolina State University’s Industry Expansion Solutions.  Other partners include the North Carolina Community College System, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the Polymers Center in Charlotte, North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State University, and the Manufacturing Solutions Center located in Conover.

Business North Carolina is a statewide publication serving North Carolina’s vibrant and diverse business community for more than 35 years. In addition to publishing, Business North Carolina has expanded to event marketing, such as mfgCON, and recently, the NC CEO Summit, held last March in Pinehurst. The CEO Summit gathers 100 CEOs for learning and networking. The 2018 version is scheduled for April 1 and 2, once again at Pinehurst’s world-renowned Carolina hotel.

Just like last year, Governor Roy Cooper is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, along with Dr. Michael Walden of NC State’s School of Management. Dr. Walden will discuss North Carolina’s economic forecast. Another keynote will be Jay Douglass, COO of Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute. Douglass will speak on, “Robotics and the Future of Manufacturing”.

“This Conference is extremely important to North Carolina’s Manufacturing efforts, said Phil Mintz, Executive Director of NC State’s IES. “Manufacturing is critical to the success of North Carolina’s economy, and an event such as this only enhances and improves manufacturing in our state.”

Breakout Sessions are an important part of mfgCON. Presentations in these important sessions will include Mark Jones, CEO of HSM in Hickory, Patrick Weaver, International Banking Director at First National Bank, and Lisa Bradshaw, CFO of Camco Manufacturing in Greensboro.

Breakout topics will fall in four categories; workforce development, leadership and culture, plant floor success, and business growth and innovation.

“We feel our agenda is both relevant and features experts that North Carolina manufacturers are excited to hear from on multiple levels,” said Ben Kinney, publisher of Business North Carolina. “Our attendance has grown tremendously over the last several years, which is an example of the event’s relevance. And, having Governor Cooper as a keynote speaks to the importance of manufacturing, and our Convention.”
