Manufacturer laying off 107, shutting down operations in Franklin County

Atlanta-based East West Manufacturing, a design, manufacturing and distribution business, will close its Youngsville facility in March and layoff 107 workers there, according to paperwork filed with the N.C. Department of Commerce.

The Team Manufacturing East West plant will permanently close Sunday, March 2, and employees will be laid off between then and March 29, according to the company. The workers there do not belong to a union.

East West Manufacturing acquired Team Manufacturing in September 2018. Team Manufacturing specialized in electronics manufacturing, including wire and cable interconnects, wire harness assembly and box-build services.

Team Manufacturing was founded in 2002 by Don Albright and based in Youngsville, a town of about 2,100 residents located in Franklin County and about 22 miles northeast of Raleigh. Albright is no longer with the company.

East West, which was founded in 2001, has 15 facilities, including design operations in Asheville and manufacturing services in Charlotte. It has other U.S. operations in Georgia, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Texas, and international operations in Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Vietnam, China and India, according to its website.

New York City-based investment firm MSD Partners acquired East West Manufacturing in February 2022. MSD manages more than $20 billion in capital on behalf of Dell Technologies founder and CEO Michael Dell and his family, as well as other investors, and also has offices in Santa Monica, California, and West Palm Beach, Florida.

Company officials at the plant in Youngsville and in Atlanta did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
