Educating our children is one of our greatest responsibilities, and I was the chairman of the board for the Lacy Foundation, which is a charity that raises money for my sons’ public school. It has raised more than $500,000 in the past five years for additional teachers at Lacy Elementary School in Raleigh. I also have served as a coach for my sons’ soccer teams.

Vita: Born Feb. 24, 1967, in Wilmington; bachelor’s from Wake Forest University and law degree from Campbell University; wife and three sons.
What he’d be if not a lawyer: High-school history teacher during the day and stand-up comedian at night. The comedian part would require that I keep my day job.
Memorable case: A Perry Mason moment earlier in my career when I was examining a woman on the stand about her relationship with my client’s husband. She finally just filled her cup with water, turned around in her seat and sat there for several minutes before answering. Even with all that thought, I don’t think she answered truthfully.
Passions: Our profession often becomes our passion, but I try to keep my focus on my family and make it my priority.
Favorite place: Coal Creek Canyon in Colorado.
Favorite book: A 20-volume series of historical novels by Patrick O’Brian beginning with Master and Commander. It’s better than it sounds.
