I worked six years as an advocate for domestic violence victims in the New Hanover County criminal-justice system. These days my community service involves service-related activities, including being a Big Sister with the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, volunteering with Friendship Trays and serving as the Mecklenburg County Bar’s solo-practitioner/small-firm section chairperson.

Vita: Born Oct. 13, 1969, in Wilmington; bachelor’s from Wake Forest University and law degree from N.C. Central University; parents and two sisters.
What she’d be if not a lawyer: I would return to working with battered women as a court advocate or be a crime-scene investigator or detective.
Memorable case: I represented a former company executive who lost a limb to cancer and later required major surgery. She was subsequently fired after her workplace-accommodation requests were not well received. She went through extraordinary pain and numerous surgeries to save her life but maintained an exceptionally positive and upbeat attitude.
Passions: My two cats and spending time with family and friends.
Favorite place: The Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa.
