My first job was with a cleaning and lawn-care business called Youth Enterprises, which my cousins and I began in our church youth group when I was 12. We cleaned our church, raked leaves and cut lawns.

Vita: Born Aug. 10,1973, in Springfield, Ohio; bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and law degree from Wake Forest University; wife.

Why he chose to specialize in this field: I believe in each citizen’s constitutional right to be represented no matter how egregious the facts or case may be. In criminal defense, the commodity is human life and liberty. As such, I am passionate about making sure that my clients get the best representation possible. Plus, you never know what is going to happen from day to day at the courthouse.   

Passions: Sports, travel, cooking and music.

Where he’d live if he had to practice somewhere else: Hanover, N.H.

What he’d be if not a lawyer: Teacher of American history or fiction.

Favorite place: Venice, Italy.

Heroes: My parents.

Favorite books: Native Son by Richard Wright and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Favorite play is Fences.

Don’t ask him to: Eat outside or do any activity that involves heights such as bungee jumping or ziplining.
