Our family boat isn’t much to write home about, but it’s a great place to unwind and spend time with family and friends.
Vita: Born Sept. 9, 1963, in Charleston, W.Va.; bachelor’s from Washington & Lee University and law degree from Wake Forest University; wife and three children. Why he chose this field: After eight years in private practice, I decided to go in-house to get closer to business strategy and decision making. Memorable case: In 1996-97, I served as outside counsel for the buyer in a fairly significant deal. In late 1996, the transaction morphed, and the deal became a joint venture between my client and a much larger entity. First, I really enjoyed working for this particular client. Second, I had the chance to lead a nice-size deal at a fairly early point in my career. Finally, about six months after this deal closed, the CEO and co-founder of the business died in a helicopter accident. What he’d be if not a lawyer: A boat builder. Hero: My mom. She died this past spring. She was selflessly devoted to her family, graceful in her sickness and death and is fondly remembered by her family and friends. Recent Reading: The Jeeves books by P.G. Wodehouse Don’t ask him to: Paint. I spent a summer during college painting houses and vowed to never again lift a brush.
