During my teenage years, I worked at a meat-processing company in South Carolina. I processed meat, served customers and worked as a cashier.

Vita: Born Oct. 27,1967, in Greenwood, S.C.; bachelor’s degree from South Carolina State University, MBA from University of South Carolina and law degree from N.C. Central University; wife and two daughters.

Why he chose to specialize in this field: Growing up I had a deep passion for science and law. Becoming an intellectual-property attorney was an obvious career choice. 

Memorable case: A patent-litigation case that went to trial with the jury finding for the bank.

Passions: Family, friends, sports and a nice cognac with a cigar.

Where he’d live if he had to practice somewhere else: Research Triangle Park.

What he’d be if not a lawyer: I would return to my first career working in engineering and management for a technology corporation.

Favorite place: Zurich.

Heroes: My parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Ruby Springs, because they provided me with good Christian, moral and family values.

Favorite book: I’ve seen the Promised Land, which is about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I also enjoy books by Warren Buffett. I am currently reading The Warren Buffett Way.
