For many years, I served on the board of trustees and in many other capacities for our synagogue and for Greensboro Day School. Now my wife and I work on projects for synagogues and schools attended by my children and grandchildren living afar.
Vita: Born May 5, 1945, in Martinsville, Va.; bachelor’s from Washington & Lee University and law degree from University of Virginia; wife, two daughters and six grandchildren.
What he’d be if not a lawyer: An architect.
Memorable case: A loan collection involving farm equipment. The farmer said no jury of his peers would require him to turn over the equipment. The client’s management debated whether it was going to be productive to institute legal proceedings. Before a decision could be made, the farm mysteriously burned down, and the equipment was destroyed beyond repair. The loan was paid in full with the insurance proceeds. There is more to practicing law than knowing the law: You must know the people involved.
Favorite place: Paris.
