Rodgers Builders, the Charlotte contractor led for decades by Pat Rodgers, has been sold to Japan’s Kajima, according to people familiar with the matter.
Kajima is a publicly traded company and one of the world’s largest contractors. It also owns Batson-Cook, an Atlanta-based contractor that has lots of business in North Carolina, including building uptown’s new Duke Energy headquarters. The Japanese firm bought Batson in 2008 and opened a Charlotte office in 2016.
Kajima’s website cites Rodgers as a subsidiary that is now affiliated with Batson-Cook.
Calls to Rodgers were not immediately returned.
The late B.D. Rodgers started his business in 1963. His wife, Pat, has run the firm since 1987. She has been a major Charlotte civic leader for decades, while her business has grown with extensive work for private and public entities, including many of the region’s largest companies. It is the contractor for Charlotte’s new downtown library.
The Charlotte Business Journal reported Rodgers as the region’s largest woman-owned company.
The Charlotte Ledger first reported news of Kajima’s purchase.
