GMAX picks Winston-Salem for $11.4 million investment to create 36 jobs

Hauppauge, New York-based GMAX Industries plans to invest $11.4 million and create 36 jobs to establish its first North American production facility to make disposable medical products in Winston-Salem.

The certified Minority Business Enterprise based in the Long Island area plans to build a 144,000-square-foot facility in support of domestic manufacturing and national distribution. The company’s produces medical textiles, such as towels and surgical gowns; patient bedside plastics, such as bed pans and water service supplies; and single-use OEM components.

Having a facility in Winston-Salem will strengthen the healthcare supply chain by shifting production closer to patient demand, according to a release from the state.

“As we expand our U.S. manufacturing capabilities, our focus remains on delivering high-quality, dependable medical products with greater speed, control, and responsiveness. By investing in domestic production, we’re not only strengthening the supply chain but also supporting American jobs and healthcare resilience,” GMAX CEO Eric Liu says in a release.

The new jobs will have an annual average salary of $66,667, exceeding Forsyth County’s average of $65,319. 

A performance-based grant of $75,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will help the company expand to North Carolina. The company also will receive local incentives. Government incentives are only paid out if GMAX hits investment and job creation targets.

CEP Eric Liu started GMAX in 2015 after working for more than 26 years at Medical Action Industries, a Virginia-based manufacturer, according to a Linkedin profile.
