Ferry succeeds Emory as Novant’s top lawyer

Veteran Charlotte attorney Frank Emory retired as chief legal officer at Novant Health after seven years in the post.

In a Facebook post, Novant Health CEO Carl Armato said Emory “has been a guiding voice and steady presence on our executive team and across our system.”

Emory’s successor is Kelli Ferry, who joined Novant in 2018 and has been deputy chief legal officer since 2022. Before entering healthcare, she worked more than a decade as a federal prosecutor, including criminal chief for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina. She established the district’s Health Care Fraud Task Force.

Ferry has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from the University of Virginia.

Before joining Novant, Emory worked for several Charlotte law firms, including Hunton Andrews Kurth. He is a former chair of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the Charlotte Chamber and the N.C. Healthcare Association.

Novant Health is the state’s second-largest healthcare system, with annual revenue topping $10 billion. Its goal is to triple in size in the coming years.
