Faye Sprye
Davenport & Company
First Vice President–Investments
It takes passion, drive and commitment to be a leader in the investment sector at Davenport & Company, a Richmond, Va.-based stock brokerage, wealth management and financial services firm. Luckily, Faye Sprye, a Financial Advisor and a First Vice President-Investments, is someone who possesses all of these attributes.
“I think when you’re happy in your work environment and passionate about helping clients achieve their goals and trying to make a difference, you achieve great results,” Sprye says. “I think that’s part of why I am where I am.”
Sprye has worked with Davenport & Company for 19 years. Prior to that, she worked for another financial firm for 15 years, until a company merger. Wanting to stay with an employee-owned business, Sprye made the leap and has never looked back.
She worked her way up in the world of finance from her entry-level position as a sales assistant for two financial advisers. She became a financial adviser herself in 1995, and she has held a variety of leadership roles at Davenport & Co. over her tenure.
Her roles as a Financial Advisor and a First Vice President–Investments requires a lot of research and communication. Each day, she takes time to study market trends and changes in the financial industry that may have happened overnight to impart information to her clients.
“My client relationships are actually a partnership where we build wealth together,” Sprye says. “I love what I do. I love helping clients achieve their goals, whether it’s through retirement or college savings plans or general investing and growing their assets to leave a legacy for their children.”
Sprye, a lifelong resident of Rocky Mount, commutes into the company’s Raleigh office a few days each week. Other days she works from home, allowing her to meet with her local clients.
When she’s not working, she stays highly active in the Rocky Mount community. She’s a sustaining member of the Junior Guild of Rocky Mount and a member of Benvenue Country Club. She also has a small wine club, where she’s joined by eight other women. What she’s most passionate about, though, is the county’s less fortunate.
She’s a committee chair and fundraiser for United Community Ministries, a nonprofit in Rocky Mount which aids the area’s homeless population through a soup kitchen and resources for overall independent living.
“Sometimes someone just needs a helping hand,” Sprye says. “We create an atmosphere where they feel like they’re not alone. We have programs for them, and it’s just very rewarding.”
