Former HanesBrands executive Jay Turner has acquired Excalibur Direct Marketing, which describes itself as the state’s oldest firm of its type. Janie and J.D. Wilson founded the Winston-Salem-based business in 1972. Terms weren’t disclosed.
Turner, 55, joined as CEO in 2023 after working as president and general manager of HanesBrands’ divisions involving intimate apparel and men’s underwear and socks. He developed and launched the company’s successful Hanes Tagless T-Shirt, according to a press release.
Excalibur has 26 employees with an average tenure of 18 years. President George Newstedt and Vice President of Client Services Ryan Talbert will remain in place.
“After 28 wonderful years at HanesBrands, it was a new world for me to be drawn into a small, family-owned business at Excalibur and see all the opportunities for the exciting future of the enterprise,” Turner said. “I also found it refreshing and fun to work in such a nimble environment at Excalibur. I enjoy collaborating with the company’s talented team leaders, coming together with ideas and plans, and then executing them.”
Excalibur is adding digital capabilities to its established statement printing, fulfillment and pre-sort offerings, Turner said.
“Jay is an innovator and quickly embraced Excalibur’s unique blend of modern and legacy service offerings that include statement printing, fulfillment, mailroom services and mail pre-sorting,” Newstedt said.
