Energizer adds 144 jobs, $43 million investment in Asheboro expansion

A company best known for its batteries and iconic Bunny will add 144 jobs and make a $43 million investment in Asheboro.

St. Louis-based Energizer Holdings will have an equipment expansion for its battery production and packaging facilities. The company, globally known as a manufacturer of Energizer, Rayovac and Eveready batteries and flashlights, along with auto care products like Armor All and STP, has been in the Asheboro community for almost 75 years.

“We’re incredibly excited about this expansion,” says Abe Prandini, plant manager of the Asheboro manufacturing plant, in a statement released by the state. “Our decision to invest in our Asheboro facilities is a testament to the great workforce in the area and we’re looking forward to calling Asheboro our home for many years to come.”

The company currently employs 411 full-time employees in both a manufacturing and packaging facility. The expansion and job creations will occur at both, said Kevin Franklin, president of Randolph County Economic Development.

Energizer Holdings will create 144 jobs with a $43 million expansion at its manufacturing facility in Asheboro.

New positions being created by the company include engineers, maintenance staff, operators, and supervisors. Although salaries vary by position, the company’s overall average annual wage is $54,169, which exceeds Randolph County’s average annual wage of $43,080. These new jobs will have the potential to create an annual payroll impact of more than $7.8 million for the community.

A performance-based grant of $450,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will help with Energizer’s expansion in North Carolina.
