Rusty Harris, the vice president and general manager of Enbridge Gas North Carolina, will add Ohio to his responsibilities, the company announced Monday. He will fill the role of Dan Weekley, vice president and general manager of Enbridge Gas Ohio, who set his retirement for July 1.
Weekley helped lead the transition after Enbridge Gas purchased the East Ohio Gas Co. for $6.6 billion from Dominion Energy in March 2024. In September 2024, Dominion Energy closed on its sale of Gastonia-based Public Service Company of North Carolina to Calgary, Canada-based Enbridge for $3.2 billion.
Harris started with SCANA Corp and its subsidiaries, South Carolina Electric and Gas and PSNC, as well as Dominion Energy, in 1986 and has been a vice president at Enbridge based in Gastonia since October. He will split time between both states, and be headquartered in Cleveland, but continue to live in North Carolina.
Harris earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina. He serves on the board for the North Carolina Chamber, the Southern Gas Association, the American Gas Foundation and is the current chair of the Gaston Business Association.
Enbridge Gas Ohio distributes natural gas to 1.2 million customers in 35 counties. Enbridge Gas North Carolina distributes natural gas to more than 650,000 customers in 28 North Carolina counties from Asheville to Gastonia to Raleigh.
Enbridge has about 16,000 employees, mostly in the US and Canada. It has natural gas operations in Ohio, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and North Carolina, plus Ontario and Quebec. It has assets in 43 U.S. states, eight Canadian provinces and five countries.
Editor’s note: This story has been updated to clarify that Harris will continue to live in North Carolina.
