Dradura laying off 117 in New Bern

A German-based manufacturer of wire baskets for dishwashing machines will shut down in New Bern, resulting in the loss of 119 jobs.

Dradura began in 1941 and is headquartered in Altleiningen, Germany. Dradura USA began in 2007 in New Bern and it’s the company’s only operation outside Europe. Dradura also has operations in Italy and Poland.

Layoffs will begin around Dec. 31 and continue until June 30, according to paperwork filed with the N.C. Department of Commerce. Workers are not a part of a union and bumping rights do not exist for the affected employees.

Dradura officials in New Bern declined comment.
