New York City-based Richloom Fabrics will close its High Point plant on April 4, resulting in the loss of 54 jobs. The company makes upholstery for indoor and outdoor furniture and the RV industry.
Company officials could not be reached for comment. It also has sales offices in High Point, and Elkhart, Indiana. It has a management office in Greenville, South Carolina, and fulfillment center in Clinton, South Carolina. It also has operations in Shanghai, China.
The company was founded in 1957 by Fred Richman, and is now led by his son, Jim Richman. Michael Saivetz, the nephew of Jim Richman, became president in May 2023, after joining the company in 1997.
Saivetz played a key role in the acquisition of the High Point mill in 2019 from Chambers Fabrics, according to trade publication Home News Now and the company website. Ray Chambers began Chambers Fabrics in 1988 and became president of manufacturing and engineering at Richloom Weaving after the sale. The owner of the property is listed as Raymond Chambers Jr.
The mill has been around since 1971. The property’s two buildings sit on 16 acres of land and has a Guilford County tax value of $2.5 million.
