David Spratley is serving as North Carolina’s interim Secretary of Commerce, following Secretary Anthony Copeland’s return to the private sector, a department spokesman said. Gov. Roy Cooper has not named a permanent secretary.
A former executive at the KPMG consulting firm in Charlotte, David has a background in corporate finance and economic development management. He has been serving as senior assistant secretary of finance at the department since Dec. 30.
Spratley previously was vice president of business recruitment at the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the public-private group that works with the state on tourism marketing and economic development. He also had a previous stint at N.C. Commerce’s Business & Industry Division.
He is a graduate of UNC Wilmington.
Copeland had served as Commerce Secretary through Cooper’s first term as governor.
