Chick-fil-A to add 85 jobs, build distribution center in Rowan County

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A will invest $58 million in a new distribution center in Kannapolis that will employ 85 workers, state officials said Tuesday.

The 120,000-square-foot distribution center will serve about 100 restaurants in the Charlotte region and will open in the third quarter next year. Chick-fil-A Supply currently operates four distribution centers, including a 180,000-square-foot distribution center in Mebane. Kannapolis is split between Cabarrus and Rowan counties.

“Chick-fil-A Supply is committed to investing in local communities like Kannapolis to create jobs and grow our supply chain operation,”Josh Grote, executive director of the privately held company, said in a press release.

New positions include drivers, managers, office staff, and warehouse personnel. Wages will vary by position, with an average annual wage of $58,574, which exceeds the Rowan County average of $50,138.

A performance-based grant of $200,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will help with Chick-fil-A Supply’s expansion. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance to local governments to help attract economic investment and create jobs.

Chick-fil-A Supply must create 82 jobs to receive One NC grant payments. All One NC grants require matching participation from local governments, and any award is contingent upon that condition being met.
