Raleigh-based accounting and advisory firm Cherry Bekaert acquired Tarsus, a 175-member firm that offers outsourced accounting, bookkeeping, strategic CFO services and data management. The acquisition took effect Dec. 31. Terms were not disclosed.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, Tarsus has additional offices in California, Missouri, and Bangalore, India. The acquisition will expand Cherry Bekaert and provide a greater presence in the Washington, D.C., and Kansas City markets, says CEO Michelle Thompson.
“They bring leadership and deepened experience with private equity, venture capital and technology backed companies,” says Thompson, who has been with Cherry Bekaert more than 25 years, and CEO since 2018. Tarsus will go by the Cherry Bekaert name.
Tarsus formed 17 years ago. Managing Partner Alex Diaz-Asper says Tarsus provides services to CFOs facing issues ranging from labor to recruitment to the lack of CPAs.
“They’re looking to people like ourselves to help solve those problems and bring them multiple solutions,” says Diaz-Asper. “By combining our strengths, we can offer an expanded suite of services while maintaining the high standards and personalized attention our clients expect.”
Cherry Bekaert has about 3,000 employees, ranking as the 20th largest U.S. accounting firm last year, according to Accounting Today. It has 416 employees in North Carolina, including 222 in Raleigh.
