UNX-Christeyns, a cleaning chemicals and products manufacturer, will add 21 new jobs in Pitt County and invest $10.5 million to expand and consolidate its operations.
Headquartered in Greenville, UNX-Christeyns has operated in North Carolina for more than 65 years. It makes detergents to dispensers for commercial laundry, housekeeping, and ware washing industries, including hospitality and athletic organizations.
The expansion will consolidate its administrative, engineering, manufacturing and warehousing operations to a larger 70,000-square-foot facility in Greenville.
A performance-based grant of $40,000 from the One North Carolina Fund and an $80,000 Building Reuse Grant from the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority will help support the expansion.
In a release, CEO Josh Lilley said the project “allows for a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility which enables our organization to manufacture innovative, sustainable cleaning solutions for the customers we serve.”
The average annual wage of $59,857 exceeds the Pitt County average of $50,937.
The company, founded in 1958, was the first company to develop organic chlorine agents such as trichloroisocyanuric acid into dry organic bleaches.
In 2019, U.N.X. Inc. was purchased by the Clark family and renamed UNX Industries. In 2022, UNX Industries and Christeyns USA merged to form UNX-Christeyns.
Christeyns USA was a division of Christeyns, a $300 million family-owned Belgian manufacturer of cleaning, hygiene and disinfection products.
