Charlotte physician group names Muns CEO

Tryon Management, which operates one of the state’s largest independent physicians groups, named Lindsay Muns as CEO. Dr. Dale Owen, the cardiologist who helped form Tryon Medical Partners in 2018, is now executive chair of the partnership and remains a practicing physician.

Muns was formerly president of the physician practice management division of Raleigh-based US Radiology Specialists, and is a former CEO of Charlotte Radiology. She also worked at the Cleveland Clinic, OrthoCarolina and Aetna. She has an undergraduate degree from Stanford and MBA and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan.

“Lindsay is a proven leader who understands the evolving needs of patients, physicians and employers,” Owen said in a release. He is now executive chair of Tryon Medical, while Dr. Bob Brownlee is president.

Tryon Medical started in 2018 with 88 physicians who previously worked for Atrium Health. Their departure sparked a lawsuit in which Tryon alleged that the hospital system was operating in a monopolistic fashion. The lawsuit was dropped after Atrium agreed to end the physicians’ employment and noncompete agreements.

Tryon Management has 412 employees and 10 clinics in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties. The includes 87 physicians, 17 nurse practitioners and 11 physician assistants.

TMG received an undisclosed investment last year from TPG, a large San Francisco-based private-equity group that has more than $250 billion under management.
