Caterpillar dealer owner CTE changes name to Weisiger Group

Charlotte’s CTE company, whose holdings include the Carolina Cat Caterpillar franchise in western North Carolina, is changing its name to the Weisiger Group, after the family that has owned the business for nearly 100 years.

Its businesses provide equipment and services for construction, electric power generation and material handling customers.

“Weisiger represents more than just a family name,” explained Ed Weisiger, Jr., the company’s chief executive officer. “It signifies our nearly 100-year commitment to serving our customers, communities, and our team members.”

L.M. Weisiger started the company with 15 people in 1926. It is now among the state’s biggest private companies with 2,000 employees, says former CEO Ed Weisger Sr.

The transition includes a new website, WeisigerGroup.com. Carolina Cat has nine locations in western North Carolina. Other holdings include LiftOne, a material handling dealership with 19 locations; Sitech Horizon, which distributes construction technology systems; and BlueSkye Automation, which offers warehouse solutions to improve productivity and safety.

Ed Weisiger Jr. joined the company in 1987 and became CEO in 1991. He is chair of the N.C. State Board of Trustees. He has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from N.C. State and a Harvard MBA.
