Business North Carolina brings home top honors at business publication competition

The Alliance of Area Business Publishers presented 116 Editorial Excellence awards to business publications on June 29. Business North Carolina faced some impressive and diverse competition, with 511 entries from 41 publications in the U.S., Canada and Australia.

We are proud to say we scooped three awards this year. Senior Contributing Editor Ed Martin won a gold for Best Body of Work, continuing his decades-old domination of this category. Our Daily Digest newsletter brought home the gold for Best Daily Email, which the judges commented feels like, “it’s coming from a friend, someone the reader is welcoming into his or her space.”

We also received bronze for Best Overall Design for our “visual design that gives the publication a sense of sophistication,” according to the judging panel made up of University of Missouri journalism professors.

“We have a great group of folks here who do outstanding work every day, so it’s awesome to be recognized for that,” says Ben Kinney, publisher of Business North Carolina and the office’s No. 1 fan of professional wrestling. “Winning gold for Best Email Newsletter made us feel like Rocky beating Drago, Mr. T and Hulk Hogan all at once! Ed Martin has proved again that he’s the Ric Flair of business writers. Woo!”
