Bojangles boosts menu with chicken rice bowl

Bojangles will take three menu items – dirty rice, cajun pintos and chicken – combine them with some shredded cheese to create a chicken rice bowl. Texas Pete will be offered on the side.

“It just kind of brings all those flavors together and takes it to the next level,” says Marshall Scarborough, vice president of menu and culinary innovation at Bojangles, of the added hot sauce in a promotional video. TW Garner Food, based in Winston-Salem, makes Texas Pete. Chicken choices are either diced, grilled chicken breast or chicken supremes.

Bojangles started in 1977 with a single location in Charlotte, and now has about 800 company-owned and franchised restaurants. New York-based private equity group Durational Capital Management acquired the company and took it private in 2018.

Bojangles has expanded beyond its southeastern roots and is now operating in 17 states and Honduras. Bojangles expanded into Arkansas, Texas and Ohio in 2023 and has plans to expand into New Jersey and Las Vegas this year.
