North Carolina Foam Industries, which operates as NCFI Polyurethanes, is adding a 140,000-square foot plant in Mount Airy that entails an investment of more than $50 million, according to the Surry County Economic Development Partnership.
It will help the company retain its 60 employees, officials said.
“Our decision to build this new facility in Mount Airy is a testament to our commitment to the community where we began,” Chip Holton, president of NCFI Polyurethanes said in a release. “We are excited to continue our growth journey in the very place where it all started.”
He credited support from state and local governments “making this project a reality, and we look forward to contributing even more to the local economy.”
Founded in 1964, NCFI Polyurethanes is a division of Charlotte-based Barnhardt Manufacturing, a fourth-generation family business. The company manufactures technical spray foams with a diverse set of uses, including building insulation, geotechnical, and aerospace applications.
Mayor Jon Cawley said “the City of Mount Airy is deeply grateful to North Carolina Foam Incorporated and Barnhart for choosing our community as the home for their new location. Their unwavering commitment and substantial investment over the years have significantly contributed to the growth and prosperity of our city.”
