Advocate Health named Steve Smoot as division president for North Carolina and Georgia, effective June 2.
He replaces Ken Haynes, who was recently named executive vice president and chief enterprise services officer for Advocate Health, Atrium’s parent company.
Smoot was most recently chief operating officer at St. Louis, Missouri-based SSM Health, where he oversaw 23 hospitals and 300-plus physician practices. He has had that job since 2018.
SSM is a Catholic not-for-profit system that had revenue of $11.4 billion in 2024 and about 40,000 employees
“Beyond his resume, Steve shares our values and will help us deliver on our purpose: to redefine care for all,” Advocate Health CEO Eugene Woods said in a release.
Smoot has a bachelor’s degree in hospital administration from Weber State University and an MBA from Brigham Young University.
Advocate is the third-largest not-for-profit hospital operator in the US. It uses the Atrium Health brand in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama.
