Thomas Dempsey has founded and led several North Carolina-based companies in the outdoor industry, including SylvanSport, a Brevard-based company that manufactures popular compact RVs. As a creative industrial designer, his past work includes products in the medical and outdoor-recreation fields that have been featured by hundreds of media outlets. He lives in Transylvania County.
What do you like best about your job?
Being a creative leader, and the variety.
What inspires you?
The ability to make positive change in people’s lives – from helping to create opportunities for my coworkers to bringing joy to our customers’ lives.
Who is a role model?
I have many for different situations in life, but most of the time, I think of my dad, from whom I witnessed a dependable, steady, intelligent, strong and witty leader.
What was your biggest challenge this week?
Fighting a cold while keeping things moving forward on many fronts.
Favorite N.C. vacation spot?
My home in Cedar Mountain – at 3,300 ft., it stays nice and cool, even on the hottest summer days, and it borders miles of wilderness.
