Recent reading I am currently reading The Hobbit to my boys. It was my favorite book as a child. I know the day is coming when they will no longer want Daddy to read them bedtime stories, so I am savoring every minute of it.
Favorite TV show I am totally obsessed with The Walking Dead. Those unfamiliar with the show might be tempted to conclude it is simply a gratuitous gore-fest. The show is actually about the deconstruction of societal norms in the wake of a Malthusian catastrophe. It follows a collapse of the rule of law, the struggle for survival, the rise of natural law, the satisfaction of basic societal needs, and the inevitable re-emergence of the rule of law as a result of mankind’s innate desire for structure and order. That, AND we get to see a ton of zombies get brained along the way!
Passions I study Aikido, which is a Japanese martial art based on non-confrontation and the redirection of force. The goal is to be able to disable or disarm an attacker without inflicting permanent injury. Aikido helps keep me healthy, humble and centered.
