Business North Carolina honored the 2017 Small Business of the Year winner and finalists at a luncheon Dec. 1 at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. The winner was Mertek Solutions Inc. of Sanford, which makes robots to assemble everything from car parts to cosmetics cases. Runners-up were Appalachian Antique Hardwoods of Waynesville, Quilt Lizzy of Warrenton and Transportation Impact of Emerald Isle. Duke Energy Corp. sponsored this year’s award.
