An era ends, another begins

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority named Tom Murray CEO, replacing Tim Newman. Murray has 30 years of hospitality experience and has served as the chief operating officer of the Americas for London-based InterContinental Hotels Group PLC, the world’s largest hotel chain. Most recently, he was the CEO of a cruise company. During the seven-year tenure of Newman — since demoted to a job overseeing sales and marketing — the CRVA came under fire several times (Regional Report, July). Murray will make $275,000 plus an $8,000 car allowance; Newman made $245,000 in salary but received about $300,000 in 2010 due to bonuses.
